On Wednesday we left the emergency room with the orders that Kael was allergic to Amoxicillin and to stop medication immediately {Which was fine because I forgot to give it to him on Tuesday, so the last day that he had the medication was Monday. Oops, but I guess it was a good thing!} We also had to keep him on Benadryl every 6 hours until the spots went away. They told us not to give him any Motrin for his fever because that could make the reaction worse. So he was on Tylenol every 4 hours to keep the fever down. The Tylenol wasn't doing anything for the fever. It was just maintaining it between 102 degrees and 103 degrees. The next morning {Thursday} he woke up with this on his face....

Things were getting worse, and he was even on
Benadryl. I think the welts on this side of his face formed the shape of a "C". Weird.
We knew that this was not normal. His fever was still prevalent and his welts were getting worse!

So back to the emergency room we went!
Yay, my favorite place! People were looking at my child like, "
Ahh what has that child got? Everyone hold your breath around him!" I know that is what I would be thinking and telling my two year old! :)

He was so sick. His eyes were so tired and sick. {
It is funny because Kael has "tired" looking eyes anyways. I can't tell you how many times a day when we are out running errands I hear, "He looks like he is going to fall over dead asleep!" I just smile and nod, but really I am thinking, "Really? Because he just woke up from a two hour nap!"} This time his eyes really looked tired and sick to me! Poor baby! He was so
HOT! He made me hot just holding him!

The emergency room doctor wanted to make sure that their wasn't anything that they were missing. They had to come in and take a urine sample for testing. They had to give him a catheter. It took 4 of us to hold him down! The we had to hold him down again for the I.V. It was horrible. It was so hard to listen to my child scream. He was looking at me like, "Aren't you going to save me!?" It was the hardest thing ever!
After they finally left him alone he cried himself to sleep!

He was really annoyed with his I.V. He kept trying to take it out. They put a board under his arm to help keep the I.V. in place. He quickly figured out that he could whack things with it! The emergency room doctor decided since his condition was getting worse that he should stay overnight at the hospital for observation. He wanted a pediatrician to look at him more closely. I was super impressed with McKay Dee Hospital! They were amazing through this whole thing! As soon as we got to our room we had a Child Life Coordinator bring him a cute blanket and some toys to play with. Our room was full of people and he was not sure about any of them. After the I.V. and catheter experience he was not trusting anyone! He would cry when anybody would come near him. All of the hospital staff was dressed in protective gowns, masks, and gloves. They had to protect themselves in case he was contagious {
which he wasn't, but they have to be safe!} A total of 3 Pediatricians came to see
Kael. They all had different opinions. They wouldn't let us use
Kael's old doctor as his primary care physician because technically he should have a Texas doctor for that {
that is another story for a different day}. I was bummed because I
LOVED her! But the 3 doctors that saw
Kael were good too. They were a little stumped as to why
Kael had a continuous fever with this reaction. They tested him for bacteria in his blood and urine, along with other viruses. The took chest x-rays to make sure he didn't have Pneumonia or the Influenza {
The x-ray process was also an experience. They smashed him into this over-sized hour glass looking contraption. His legs were dangling and his arms were above his head. Talk about traumatizing...for the both of us! He did like the ride in the wheelchair to the x-ray room though!} They also sucked mucus out of his nose to test him for RSV. It is safe to say that this child has been put through the ringer! If his fever had not gone down by today they were going to do a spinal tap to check for Meningitis. Glad that we didn't have to do that!

He was so excited when Grandma and Grandpa brought his brother to see him. He was so happy to see familiar faces that weren't going to bother him with tests! His brother did get too lovey with him
which annoyed
Kael a little! He was in good spirits when they arrived but that quickly faded when the
Motrin wore off and his fever came back! He fell asleep on Grandma.
Bryan's parents and family are in San Diego, so they missed out on all the fun! ;)

He looked horrible. As a parent I felt totally helpless. I didn't know what to do or where to turn. The doctors were stumped. They thought it was a reaction to the antibiotic but they couldn't really explain his high fevers. Luckily my Dad and Bryan were able to give
Kael a
Preisthood blessing. I am so grateful for this in my life. What a blessing it is to have a husband and a father who can perform such a great blessing!
Kael was given another dose of Motrin for his high fever {103} and it went away!

Of course Peyton had to play in the "cage". He thought the "
hopsital" was fun! Bryan went home to sleep with Peyton and I stayed with
Kael. I knew that it was going to be a long night.
Kael is a horrible sleeper anyways, but you throw a crazy crib into the mix and it was a nightmare! I was up all night trying to get him to sleep and in the crib without waking up. Hospitals are so noisy! I hate that! They also came in to check his temperature and vitals several times which kept him awake! Needless to say, I got an hour and a half of sleep! It was a
LONG night! I
did not want to stay another night!
