4th of July: Part 1

On the morning of the 4th it was already hot outside, so we decided to hit up the community pool. We joined six other chiropractic families and had a picnic lunch. It was so fun!

Our city has two water parks, one for big kids with bigger slides and this one for smaller children. It was perfect for all of our kids who are small.

Peyton just did his own thing, swimming around the pool where ever he wanted to go. Although, he was not a fan of the lazy river. He would get caught in the moving water and would scream, "No you stupid water! I don't want to go this way!" He's got personality, doesn't he? {sigh} He loved all of his little friends that were at the pool. He of course cried when we left, "Will we come back?" Sure, sure....I will say anything to get you to the car right now! ;)

This little guy kept me on my toes {shocker} and gave me about 29 mini panic attacks. Seriously. We mostly played in the kiddie pool that gradually got deeper, and he loved it. He would face plant-it in the water and get up and laugh. He didn't care if his head went under the water. He then decided it would be fun to crawl backwards until the water was over his head, and then he would stand up and laugh. When he realized that it got a little deeper he decided to go where it was waste deep to him...and then face plant it.....one problem, he then couldn't stand up because he was too buoyant to put his hands on the ground to help himself up. Panic attacks people. Panic attacks. Kael then discovered the big pool, where daddy was and walked right off the stairs. I knew that he was going to do this, so I was there to grab him. {one step ahead of you buddy. always one step ahead} It still makes me gasp for air and causes my heartbeat to go a million miles an hour. I had enough of that for awhile so I handed him off to his dad. Not a great idea. Once his dad figured out that he loved to go under water, it was a fun game for the both of them. He would throw him in the air and let him fall in the water, quickly catching him after he went under. I thought I was going to get a break from the panic attacks. {why are dads not narotic messes like mothers?} Anyhow, after about 3 hours of swimming Kael had enough.

We fought the entire way home to keep him awake. We were mildly successful until we pulled onto our street. He stayed asleep as his dad got him out of his carseat and I was even able to take off his wet swimsuit and changed his wet diaper, all while he was asleep.

He stayed asleep for 3 hours. Can anyone say, "family nap time"? Glorious.

He looks sweet doesn't he? He is on sale tonight for real cheap. After finding my shoes in the sink in a soapy water-filled bowl of cookie dough and after mopping the entire house, {our house is all tile} and coming out to find a Vaseline covered Kale and couch, I have had about enough for the evening. Thanks. Any offers? ;)

Freaky Texas Bugs.....

One thing that I have learned about Texas is that it has some pretty freaky bugs!
The fire ants here are INSANE! I thought they would be noticeable...like big and red...but this is not the case, they look like regular little ants. But, WOW can they bite! One bit me on the bottom of my foot and it stung for a good 15 minutes. Little jerks. Peyton had a run in with them as well...after screaming for a few minutes he decided that fire ants are "idiots".
The other night Peyton was playing out in our yard with some little friends in the sandbox {with his shirt off} and came into the house and had 3 big bites on his back. {i promise that we don't beat our child...these really are bug bites} :) Each bite was a little bigger than quarter-sized. I am not sure what type of bug bit him...but I am sure it was one of the freaky ones!
:)

Peyton has really sensitive skin, so even a simple mosquito bite will double in size within a sew minutes. His skin breaks out in a gnarly rash if we put mosquito spray on him, so we are not sure how to protect him.
This picture was taken after being awake all night itching and scratching until he made them bleed. I felt bad because I didn't have any Benadryl and Kael had walked off with my anti-itch cream. {every morning Kael empties my bathroom drawers. it's a ritual. sometimes things make it back in the drawers and sometimes not} It was a long night! I took this picture at nap time {all 3 of us enjoyed nap time}. He didn't want to wear a shirt because that just made him itch more. Sad.
The bites have now shrunk and have almost disappeared. I am sure this won't be our last run-in with some Texas freaky bugs.

"Who Are You?"

Most days don't go without Bryan saying to Kael, "Who are you?" This question is then promptly answered by a 3 year old saying, "Oh Dad, his name is Kael." Looking at him like 'I can't believe you forgot again!'
:)
Why does Bryan make this comment at least once a day you ask?
Let me explain.

This is what Kael does to his food...he demolishes it. He is actually double-forking it in this picture. The food ends up all over his face, hair, arms, legs, ears, the table, the floor....the list goes on and on. His appetite has totally changed. He used to not want anything to do with solid foods....now he eats his, plus half of my food.

He takes a lick of Popsicle and then licks the door....over and over again.
Fun game...and sanitary.

Everything is a toy to him. He loves playing in my bathroom drawers. Everyday something is missing from my make-up bag {he has learned how to un-zip}. Yesterday, Bryan found his toothbrush in the kitchen sink....all compliments of Kael.

He is rather destructive. These blinds were in the boys' window...not anymore due to Kael pulling them down. Bryan thought he could hide them between the crib and the dresser....nope...everyday Kael pulls them out so he can whack them with a stick. They have since been moved. :)

He broke my side table. Okay, okay, I can't totally blame Kael on this one. The legs were loosened on the move down because some ABF Vanline driver was popping wheelies with our stuff in the back {literally...lots of stuff was broken}. But I had the legs nicely balanced until Kael came along and broke two legs completely off! Now I have to try to figure out how to fix it. Bryan told me he just wanted to buy a new one...two problems...1) it is from Rod Works which is in Utah...and 2) what money tree are you going to Mr. Moneybags? :) I guess I just need to think positively....at least the lamp didn't break. :)

He has had some major incidentals this week. I have come close several times to calling either Grandparents and selling him to the highest bidder. Here is what he has been up to:

  • At bath time he decided to poop the tub {first thought...shouldn't they be over this by now? Second thought...I am so glad that I chose to do the dishes rather than bath time!} I had to scoop him up and bathe him in the other bathroom while Bryan fished out the poop. I heard him yelling "Oh! It's stuck in the drain! I did not want that to happen!" I was laughing so hard I think I almost peed my pants. After bath time was over, Bryan was still cleaning up the mess and I went back to the dishes. Two seconds later I hear, "No Kael! Don't throw the ball in there. There is still poop in the tub!" Too late. The ball was covered in poop. I quickly removed Kael from the bathroom {laughing my face off mind you} and went back to the dishes. Next thing I know Kael has spilled a Slurpee all over the table and Bryan walked out just in the nick of time. He started cleaning that up {i was still doing dishes. we must have had a lot that night.} :) As he is cleaning up, here comes Kael with a football...and throws it right in the middle of the Slurpee mess. This prompted the Bryan comment, "Who are you, Kael?"
  • After sweeping/vacuuming/mopping the ENTIRE house, I come out to find that Kael has spilled his crackers all over the kitchen table and is stomping on them and then kicking them off of the table. Crumbs were everywhere. I cried.
  • We had some friends over last night for dinner and all of the little boys were outside playing and Peyton ran in and said, "Mom! Kael has poop all over his bum and is trying to get in the sandbox." Odd. How would Peyton know that Kael had poop all over his bum unless his diaper is off.....his diaper is off...and I went running! Yep, there he was naked as a jaybird with poop all over his bum. I then had to apologize to our guests as I passed my smelly, poopy, naked child in front of them to get to the bathroom. {don't worry. we were done eating.} Bryan already had the bath water going{we're a good team}. I handed him Kael and went to survey the damage outside, hoping he hadn't actually sat in the sand pile where the children were now playing. I didn't see any evidence, but I did find the diaper nicely placed on a chair, almost as if it were a gift for me. Sick. I then went back into the bathroom to see how things were coming. When Bryan saw me he said, "How come I always have to clean up the poop?" Do you really want me to go there bud? Seriously? I do this EVERYDAY...ALL DAY! And besides there is nothing funnier than Bryan taking care of a poopy diaper. He makes the funniest faces and sounds. It is hilarious. I make him do it for my comic relief. But I can't let him know that. :)
These are some of the reasons that make Bryan question, "Who are you, Kael?"
He is mischievous, energetic, and happy....and we love him.
That's all that counts right?

*Sorry that this post was a little graphic. It is mostly for memories sake. I can show this to his wife one day and say, "Look what you have to look forward to." That is if I live through this. :)*

Look What We Found.....

What a sight for sore eyes!

We found a Costa Vida! Now, I am not a person that usually compares things too much, but it does taste a little different than Cafe Rio. But nonetheless it has sweet pork....so we're good. It was yummy! It is located in Colleyville which is not too far from our house, only about 15 minutes in good traffic. It was really busy, but it was worth it for the food.
We just fed the missionaries on Monday, whom are both from Utah, and we talked about how much we miss Cafe Rio. When we informed them that there was a Costa Vida in Texas and it was only 15 minutes away...they were stoked. We crushed there hopeful dreams when we told them where it was....it was located in a different mission {which = no bueno for the sweet pork goodness}. Our backyard is basically the mission boundaries {not really...but almost.} So we told them that we would go and buy them some Costa Vida and bring it to them. The excitement in their eyes and hears we restored.
How could I partake of the sweet pork deliciousness and not share?

Texas Heat...

It has begun....we knew that it was coming....but not this soon!
:)

According to our local weatherman , David Finfrock {i had to throw that in there for Bryan because he makes fun of me...he thinks i am obsessed with the weather...he he} we are between 10 and 15 degrees hotter than normal. This made me feel better because I don't think that I could handle it being this hot between June and October!

Saturday was the hottest day of the year.
We decided that we would celebrate this milestone with a dip in the pool.
We snuck into our old complex to go swimming.
Sadly we weren't the only ones with that idea. We had to swim around the people that decided to smoke 8 cigarettes while floating in the pool, people downing beer, and some yay-who that decided the rest of the pool attendees would like to here his radio/cooler. {man, i don't miss apartment living.} Needless to say it was a short trip to the pool.

On our way home we stopped and got Slurpee's, which Peyton and Kael LOVED!
I decided to document the days temperatures via our dash thermometer.

Almost 5 o'clock and it is that bloody hot!
:)

Two minutes later we reached 110 degrees!
Notice the husbands creepy face. What a weirdo. He thinks he's funny. Okay he's funny.
:)

And yet again...the dashboard thermometer. Notice the time? Yes, 8:34 at night and it was 101 degrees. The sun was down...and it was still that hot. Yikes....I was grateful that I was a) not homeless and b) not camping. Could you imagine?

The heat hasn't been as bad as I thought....that's probably because the humidity hasn't shown up yet. It might also help that if we're outside we are either swimming in a pool, or transferring ourselves from a car to an air conditioned building.
I suppose we'll survive!

At Our House....We Like to Play Dress-Up...

Sometimes we like to play dress-up. Who says boys can't play dress-up? Certainly not us!

Sometimes Peyton likes to pretend that he is "Data" from the "Goonies". Yes, he is wearing a puffy coat and it was a balmy 103 degrees outside. Sacrifices you have to make to stay in character! ;)

He likes to open up his coat and pretend to have a boxing glove that is hooked to a slinky.
He he!
{and yes, he is in his underwear}
:)

Kael likes to pretend that he is going swimming. He liked wearing the floaties until it interfered with his book reading. He couldn't move his arms to turn the pages. He was very mad. Dress-up time was over.

And sometimes when mom isn't looking, he colors on his face with a marker.

Good times at the Thompson Residence.

Mamau and Grandpa Ron come to visit....

Grandpa Ron and Mamau came to visit this past week. It's a long story so I will make it short....we put our Jeep up for sale and Bryan's mom (aka Mamau) wanted to buy it. So Bryan's mom and dad flew down so they could drive it back to Utah.
They arrived Friday afternoon and by late Friday afternoon the spoiling had begun! :)
We went to Walmart and of course we couldn't leave with out a pool, pool pump, goggles, and a sandbox. A sandbox isn't very much fun without any sand...so we had to stop by Home Depot and get some sand...and two new patio chairs. Thanks Grandpa Ron!
Mamau had to rip out two rose bushes and some pavers to make room for our new backyard addition. {i hope that the landlords don't know about the blog. i don't know how they would feel about the rose bushes. lets be honest, they are men...they don't care about blogs...or rose bushes.} :)

Peyton LOVED the pool...Kael not so much.
Perhaps it was the fact that Peyton was in the pool.

We also went to the JFK Memorial Museum.

It went about as good as you would think a 3 year old and a 15 month would do in a museum. I felt bad for Grandpa Ron.

We also went to the Fort Worth Stockyards.
The petting zoo was free this time
{how nice of them. }

Peyton has a LOVE for goats. I am not really sure where this came from. He always tells people that he is going to get a goat for his backyard. I assure you....he is not.

Kael LOVES animals....from a distance. It is so funny, he gets so excited and starts waving his hands and arms....and then he gets so freaked out when they are close!

Grandpa Ron bought a $6 dollar cup of Oats. {that's worse than tray of fish at SeaWorld}

Peyton liked feeding the goat from the cup...not so much his hand.

Kael got a little more comfortable with the animals. He started to throw straw at them.

And once again {for the 4th time} we watched the cows strut by.
Good times.

We had so much fun with Bryan's parents and you can bet the boys were smitten. Bryan's family is so sweet and supportive. We don't know what we would do without them!
Thank you for all you do....we love you!
